The Transformation of the Rainbow Caterpillar

Once upon a time, in a garden not far from your own backyard, there stood a passion flower plant with bright blossoms and thick beautiful leaves.

And on one of those very leaves, there lay a small transparent egg. Inside that same egg, something very special was growing and waiting to be born.

And on one ordinary day, a not so ordinary caterpillar nibbled his way out. He stretched his small rainbow body in the light of day and suddenly felt a groan in his tummy.

The Rainbow Caterpillar ate the whole green leaf upon which he stood in just one sitting. Feeling satisfied, he decided to embark upon a journey.

On the first day he crawled over a rock and met up with a red ant.“Hello,” said the Rainbow Caterpillar, “would you like to play with me?”“I would enjoy that, but I am very busy knitting a sweater at the moment,” responded the red ant. “Maybe tomorrow someone else will have more time to play.”Sadly, the Rainbow Caterpillar crept away.

On the second day he crawled under a branch and met up with two green grasshoppers.“Hello,” said the Rainbow Caterpillar, “would you like to play with me?”“We would enjoy that, but we are very busy painting a fence at the moment,” responded the green grasshoppers. “Maybe tomorrow someone else will have more time to play.”Sadly, the Rainbow Caterpillar crept away.

On the third day he crawled over a hose and met up with three blue beetles.“Hello,” said the Rainbow Caterpillar, “would you like to play with me?”“We would enjoy that, but we are very busy decorating a cake at the moment,” responded the blue beetles. “Maybe tomorrow someone else will have more time to play.”Sadly, the Rainbow Caterpillar crept away.

On the fourth day he crawled under a rake and met up with four yellow crickets.“Hello,” said the Rainbow Caterpillar, “would you like to play with me?”“We would enjoy that, but we are very busy sculpting a statue at the moment,” responded the yellow crickets. “Maybe tomorrow someone else will have more time to play.”Sadly, the Rainbow Caterpillar crept away.

On the fifth day he crawled over a mushroom and met up with five purple spiders.“Hello,” said the Rainbow Caterpillar, “would you like to play with me?”“We would enjoy that, but we are very busy stitching a quilt at the moment,” responded the purple spiders. “Maybe tomorrow someone else will have more time to play.”Sadly, the Rainbow Caterpillar crept away.

He felt such a terrible loneliness; he slunk down under a daisy and cried himself to sleep.

When the Rainbow Caterpillar awoke, he felt an unusual sensation inside his body and realizing that a great transformation was coming, he began to spin a protective case around himself.

After some time the Rainbow Caterpillar underwent a metamorphosis and emerged from his chrysalis as a stunning Rainbow Butterfly!

As he dried his wings in the warm sunlight, he felt energized and not quite so sad anymore. He felt happy inside and ready for a fresh start. He decided that if no one had time to play with him, then he would just play by himself.

He went straight up in flight; twirling and looping with great enthusiasm. He was having a delightful time playing all by himself.

Then very unexpectedly, just when he was about to take a break, a red spotted ladybug and a black and yellow bee flew in on either side of the Rainbow Butterfly and asked, “Would you like to play with us?”The Rainbow Butterfly felt elated and with a big smile answered with a resounding, “YES!”

The red spotted ladybug, the black and yellow bee, and the Rainbow Butterfly soared through the air and played to their hearts content.
